I wish to share a new story from The Sunflower Community Care Farm, an award-winning Suffolk care farm based at Snape Watering.
The farm is inviting women to a free drop-in wellbeing taster day on Tuesday 20th October, offering the opportunity to meet the animals, spend time outdoors, try some gentle practical activities and find out more about its wellbeing programmes. The event highlights «Relieve & Rebuild — Your Time», a flexible programme for women experiencing anxiety and depression who may not be able to commit to a full day or attend every week. 20th October 2026: OPEN DAY at
THE SUNFLOWER COMMUNITY CARE FARM
Award-winning Suffolk care farm invites women to
discover the power of nature at free wellbeing taster day.
The Sunflower Community Care Farm is opening its doors this October, inviting women to come and experience first-hand how spending time with animals, nature and purposeful activities can support confidence and wellbeing. The award-winning Sunflower Community Care Farm, which won the Community Group Award at the 2023 BBC Radio Suffolk 'Make a Difference Awards', is based at Snape Watering, and is holding a free drop-in taster day on Tuesday 20th October, from 10:00am to 3:00pm.
The event is an opportunity to meet the animals, explore the farm and discover what happens at The Sunflower Community Care Farm. There is no need to stay for the whole day, and no previous experience of farming or working with animals is required. Visitors can meet the farm's horses and ponies, rabbits, chickens, goats, dogs and fish, as well as finding out more about the wellbeing sessions available.
A flexible approach to wellbeing —
The taster day will highlight The Sunflower Community Care Farm's «Relieve & Rebuild — Your Time» sessions for women experiencing anxiety and depression. The flexible sessions are designed for women who could benefit from the supportive environment of the care farm, but may not be able to commit to a full day or attend every week.
Unlike the farm's successful rolling twelve-week «Relieve & Rebuild» programme, «Your Time» allows women to attend for just a couple of hours if that is what works for them, without the pressure of committing to weekly, full-day sessions. These sessions take place on Wednesdays between 10am and 3pm, with activities including animal care, gardening, growing and harvesting, practical farm tasks and spending time outdoors.
As shorter days approach, spending time outdoors in natural daylight can be a positive part of supporting wellbeing for people affected by seasonal changes in mood, including Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). At the farm, that can be as simple as getting outside, having a cuppa, doing something purposeful and enjoying being part of a supportive community. All sessions are free of charge, due to support from The National Lottery Community Fund grant.
Tessa Amos, Founder/Care Farm Manager at The Sunflower Community Care Farm, said,
"After my first visit to a care farm in 2015, I could see the wide-ranging benefits that can come from spending time outside, nurturing plants and caring for animals. It gives participants a sense of purpose and helps them feel worthwhile — but, just as importantly, there is no pressure or judgement here.
"You can groom a horse, feed the goats, help with growing vegetables or simply sit with a cuppa and get distracted by the wildlife. There is always something to do, but you can take things at your own pace. That is exactly why we wanted to offer «Relieve & Rebuild — Your Time». We know that committing to a full day every week isn't possible for everyone. We want women to have the opportunity to experience the benefits of the farm, in a way that works for them."
No pressure. No judgement. Just time to be yourself.
The Sunflower Community Care Farm provides a safe, friendly and supportive environment where people can build confidence, develop routines, connect with others, and experience the benefits of spending time with animals and nature.
Sessions are delivered in small groups of no more than six people, with activities designed to provide a sense of purpose and achievement without creating pressure to perform. All staff and volunteers are DBS checked and have completed safeguarding training.
The Sunflower Community Care Farm is a Community Interest Company and is a member of Social Farms & Gardens, incorporating Care Farms UK. It is accredited by Suffolk County Council as a service provider for adults and by CEVAS (Countryside Educational Visits Accreditation Scheme — Therapeutic).
Come and see for yourself.
