A hosepipe ban is being introduced across [remaining parts of ] Essex and Suffolk for the first time since 1997. Essex and Suffolk Water has enforced the Temporary Use Ban (TUB) after prolonged dry weather, with July experiencing little to no rainfall in East Anglia. [The temporary restrictions ... will be enforced from 00:01 on Monday 3rd August 2026: it applies to all household customers across the supply area. To clarify the local situation, water in Snape and at the Maltings is supplied by E&SW, but Tunstall and Blaxhall are supplied by Anglian Water so they have been under restrictions since 11th July. — Webmaster]
The region has also been hit by four successive heatwaves, leading to extremely dry soil, low river flows, and reduced groundwater sources. ... [A] warning of more hot and dry weather comes as more than 100 firefighters have been battling a fire at Dunwich Heath for more than two days.
[The fire] started on Wednesday ... around 5:30pm ... and spread to 150 hectares [or 370 acres], for the next 24 to 48 hours. Now the [fire] service has confirmed that it expects the response to continue into the weekend, and possibly next week.
Help for Dunwich Heath fire arrives from as far as Yorkshire.

Anglia Water's hosepipe ban stays in place from the Humber down to West Mersea, and well inland too. However, locally for us, Essex & Suffolk Water's website continues to report that they "aren't aware of any issues in this area", though they "need to formally appeal to ... customers to show restraint with their water use".

In case you hadn't heard ...
A hosepipe ban is set to come into place across the county as a heatwave continues. Anglian Water confirmed the ban is due to hot weather and "exceptional demand" for water across the East of England.
The temporary use ban will come into effect from 1:00am on Saturday, July 11, and anyone who flouts the ban could be liable for a fine of up to £1000
