On 25th May, at Snape Church at 3:00pm (doors open 2:30pm), the Friends of Snape Church will host a Bank Holiday Monday Concert. Snape-based Helen Stanley (above), violinist, violist and coach of chamber and orchestral playing, will be joined by pianist Nadia Lasserson and prize-winning, Tokyo-based clarinet player, Masumi Ogura, to play a programme of Brahms, Hindemith and Mozart.
Helen and Nadia met in Sri Lanka in 2014 and, since 2015, give concerts together every year (excluding lockdown) in the UK. Four times a year since 2010, Masumi has been visiting Sri Lanka, to teach clarinet, piano and knowledge of western music. Sri Lanka’s Civil War ended in 2009 and left many of Masumi’s students with PTSD. They find the music therapeutic. No doubt this classical concert will offer therapeutic value to the audience in Snape.
As Nadia says, quoting Tom Lehrer, “Life is like a piano: what you get out of it depends on how you play it.”
