Yesterday, our website gained an alternative so-called 'domain name' with a ".gov.uk" suffix. In future this will appear at the head of each webpage, instead of the familiar "snapevillage.info" that we've had since 2014 (or even earlier) — some of you may have noticed this change already. However the 'old' name remains perfectly valid and synonymous too. HM Government IT technicians will now be keeping a kindly watching and protective brief for us against scammers/hackers/etc, but full 'admin' and editorial control remains locally with me as Webmaster, and the website itself as ever with Community Action Suffolk. So this name-change merely acknowledges the website's association with (and sponsorship by) our Parish Council, Snape PC.
Most of the "@snapevillage.info" email addresses will be retained — for organisations such as The Friends of Snape Church. However, the Parish Council addresses (only) will shortly be retired in favour of a more restricted set of fresh ones with an "@snape-pc.gov.uk" suffix. This is part of a national initiative to tighten up local government administrative procedures, making them more secure from unwelcome interference, whilst ensuring accountability by discouraging private email address use for official Parish Council business.
Kind regards,
Steve Stocks
