Dr Georgina Lock performs excerpts from her plays and discusses the extraordinary women who inspired them. She is a scriptwriter, film-maker, actress and independent scholar of theatre history, based in Suffolk and Spain.
Georgina has written and performs three solo shows about historical women who overcame restrictions of gender to control their destinies. These are Lady Mary Wortley Montagu (Lady in a Veil), who introduced smallpox inoculation from Turkey to Europe; one of many unknown anchoresses (The Walled-Up Woman), who chose to pray for their communities and live in lone austerity; and Hannah Snell, Female Soldier 1750, who disguised herself as a marine, fought in India and performed on the London Stage. Georgina is now writing a book about writing and performing historical solo shows.
This evening's proceeds go to the Lighthouse women's charity in Ipswich.
