HOW TO FIND THE WHAT3WORDS ADDRESS
OF A PARTICULAR 3m x 3m SPOT
These instructions may appear complex, but you'll quickly gain the hang of them!
Remember how complex it is to describe every step of making a cup of tea ...
In your search bar or box, type "w3w" or "what3words.com",
select the What3Words website and
then you'll see a map of Magdalen Bridge in Oxford.
At top left, beside where it says "///pretty.needed.chill"
(the W3W address of the tiny square area in the middle of the map),
click on the magnifying-glass.
A Search box is then presented, for you to "Search for any place".
Type, for example, "crown snape".
❋
You'll see a list of places to choose.
Click on the most suitable (or only) one.
"Switch to satellite" by using the 'grey spaghetti' button at bottom right,
and then zoom in, when a grid overlaying the map will appear.
Each square is just 3m x 3m, or ten feet on each side.
You can try clicking on some of the squares.
You'll see the Crown's car-park entrance includes "///taller.clumped.dices",
and so its full address will be https://what3words.com/taller.clumped.dices .
Now that you know how to find a W3W address,
you'll be able to ignore these grey-text instructions.
Click on the magnifying-glass. Then, instead of "crown snape",
type the postal address or postcode of where you are interested in.
That will take you close to where you want to be.
Follow just the black steps above, starting from the red asterisk, then ...
Click on the best-positioned square for your purposes —
maybe your old Christmas tree? Its 3-word address appears top left.
I hope that helps.
